MY STORY
My obsession with turntables goes all the way back to the sixth grade, when a group of friends and I pooled whatever equipment we could find, borrow, or repair to put together a functioning DJ setup. From cheap RadioShack Realistic decks to belt-driven Technics, we made it work. But the legendary SL-1200s? At around $500 apiece, those were the stuff of dreams. Eventually, I got my hands on my own pair, and they've been part of my DJ journey ever since.
Over the decades, my work has taken me well beyond the DJ booth and into professional audio, electronics, AV installations, and event production. I've worked behind the scenes at festivals, preparing DJ equipment for touring artists, troubleshooting technical issues, and making sure everything performs as expected when it's time for the show.
That combination of experience and a lifelong appreciation for the Technics SL-1200 eventually led me to take a deeper interest in the machines themselves. From mechanical adjustments and electrical troubleshooting to precision calibration and restoration, I've developed a methodical, service-manual-driven approach to keeping these legendary turntables performing the way they should.
Today, through The 1200 Guy, I offer specialized service for DJs, collectors, and music lovers who appreciate these machines but would rather spend their time enjoying them than figuring out what's happening underneath the platter.
Whether it's routine maintenance, a stubborn mechanical issue, or a deck that's seen better days, my goal is simple: treat every turntable with the care and attention I'd want someone to give my own.
I believe these machines come from an era when equipment was built to be maintained, repaired, and kept in service rather than simply replaced. There's a reason so many SL-1200s are still spinning decades after they left the factory. They were built to last, and with proper care, there's no reason they can't keep going for generations.
Part of my mission is to help preserve these incredible machines, keeping them out of landfills, behind DJ booths, and on listening-room shelves for as long as possible. Hopefully, long after I'm gone.
Keep Spinning,
Edwin Guerra
